The Kainamui factory has over 1800 members who are smallholder farmers with an average of only 200 trees who all grow SL28 and SL34 cherries.
During the 1930’s the Kenyan government assigned a research project to the Scott Laboratories (SL) to catalog and identify varieties for improved drought resistance, higher productivity and especially better cup qualities.
The recommended varieties were number 28 and 34 which rapidly spread out over whole Kenya. SL28 derives from cross bredings of various varieties while SL34 is a natural mutation of the French Mission variety. Both varieties produce a bright and fruit driven flavor profile which is well supported by the washed processing.
We picked the AA selection from Kainamui for the classic red fruit flavors supported by an intense citric acidity.
Please enjoy as a filter brew.
