What do we mean by “Ethiopian Heirloom Variety”? It is thought that between 6000-10,000 varieties of coffee exist across Ethiopia, much of it growing wild with ongoing cross-pollination. Much of this genealogy is still to be mapped and documented and so we use the catch-all term of “Ethiopian Heirloom”. This melting-pot of varieties is one of the reasons why today, Ethiopia – the home of coffee, still produces some of the most exciting and distinctive coffee in the world.
